In The Kitchen | Coffee Chip Ice Cream

When my grandfather moved out of his beautiful red farmhouse, that he lived in for the past 41 years, a lot of purging was needed in order for him to move to a town house. At the end of every work day, my dad would dumpster dive to see what my G-pa would randomly throw away. Lo and behold he found a never-before-used (however, 20 years old) electric ice cream maker. He pulled it out, brought it home, and I immediately knew that I had to make coffee ice cream ASAP!

Now, who doesn't love a custard type ice cream infused with Nordico Blend coffee and chocolate chips? This recipe was so delicous my dad decided to add it to our family cook book that held all of our FAVORITE recipes. I'm looking forward to passing this recipe down, and to share it with all of you!

Follow along with the above recipe, and you too can enjoy in this heavenly goodness. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Hint | To see if your mixture is the right consistancy, run your finger across your spatula to see if the line remains. If no mixture runs you are ready to strain!

Please Note |

  • I used chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips. It was delicious, but a little too big when frozen.
  • Since we are using heavy cream, the custard will melt fast! If you wish it to harden a little longer I would substitute the heavy cream for light cream.
  • There will be fine coffee grounds remaining, but I thought this added more coffee flavor. I also didn't even notice that fine grinds as I ate it!
