In The Kitchen with Nan's Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake Recipe with Coffee

A family recipe made with One Village Coffee, baked in a heart shaped cake pan makes this chocolate cake worth all the slices you can fit onto your plate!

You know those family recipes that are secretly passed down from generation to generation, and every time someone asks you for that recipe you add in a decoy ingredient to keep it all to yourself? Well, this is that recipe, but no secrecy allowed! Go share this with everyone you know because it deserves some time in the spotlight.

Here is how to make this cake your own...

Sift together & set aside:

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 3/4 cup of cocoa

Mix together:

Stir together your dry ingredients with the wet ingredients! Lastly...

  • Pre-heat your oven to 300 degrees.
  • Beat 2 egg whites together, but make sure they are not too firm. Then fold into your batter.
  • Pour your batter into a greased pan and bake for 1 hour.
  • Once your cake is baked, let cool and frost with your favorite icing.

This recipe calls for a full hour of baking time...which left us all "heart eyes" over these Valentine's Day themed crafts. Felt, a needle and thread, and scissors gives you a layered string of hearts which can be hung in front of any window or door frame.

Timers are necessary if, like me, you lose track of the time easily! Thankfully, most ovens come with a built-in clock that annoyingly alerts you when ready.

Cake is baked, cooled, and that means...time to decorate!
