Today I would like to talk to you all about the Micro-lot coffees we are bringing in from Honduras. Back in March, while I was in Honduras, part of my trip was to cup over 100 coffees. From that group we decided on 3 coffees to buy and bring back for you fine people. These three coffees, are all Certified Organic and Fair Trade Certified. We haven’t decided what order we will be releasing them in, so in no particular order, I present to you our 3 micro-lots.
Los Tuneles is grown on a farm owned by Juan David Chavez, who also happens to be the president of the COMSA coop. Their coffee is grown at 1500 meters above sea level and is completely shade grown, and it is a fully washed process coffee. The flavors we tasted during our cupping session were peach and strawberry with floral notes and a nice round body. This will be our third year working together with Mr. Chavez to bring in his fantastic coffee, and we hope it’s just the beginning.
Finca Cual Bicicleta is another returning coffee for us. Last year was the first year we had the chance to try this amazing coffee and boy are we glad we did. This farm is owned by the energetic and joyful Oscar Omar Alonzo who was a mainstay during our visit. This is a natural sun dried coffee, meaning it was picked and laid out, along with the fruit, to dry in the sun. The resulting coffee is full of ripe fruity flavors. This year’s crop is packed full of flavors like creamy cherry, lemon, tangerine, and raw honey. The body is full and almost creamy, and it also is certainly a departure from washed coffees. This is a must try if you are adventurous and especially if you are not!
Our last micro lot is a new one for us. The goal going into the trip this year was to find a new farm we’d like to work with. To this end we found a fantastic coffee from a farm called Los Zorzales. Los Zorzales is the farm of Amilcar Claros. The coffee was by far my favorite coffee we cupped on day 2. It sure is bursting with flavor, juicy ripe peach, raspberries, fresh sweet cream butter, giving you a creamy mouth feel. I was really excited that we were able to find a new farm to partner with this year.
We are really excited to partner with COMSA and these farms to bring you top quality coffees, we hope you will join us in the excitement and try some for yourself. These coffees will start to be offered in the next few weeks so don’t miss out, as we only have limited quantities of each, and when they are gone that will be it until next year.
