This time every year, we start the journey of developing our winter blend. The name of last year’s blend, Nor’easter, was quite fitting for the winter we had. Since we didn’t want to jinx it this year, we are offering up our Winter Wonderland blend to help make your New Year magical. 

We sampled a variety of single origins before choosing beans that make up this blend. The two that make up this year’s winter blend are Nicaragua Segovia Prodecoop and Peruvian Aprocassi, both Fair Trade and organically grown.

A little about each of these coffee farms – Nicaragua Segovia Prodecoop brings together 38 primary cooperatives composed of 2,300 small farmers, 30% of which are women. The co-op provides services to its members such as marketing, technical assistance, training, credit, co-op development, enhancement of coffee quality, and other social projects.

The Peruvian Aprocassi co-op was founded in 2005 and started its own financing arm to co-op members in 2009 called Aprocredi. Through Aprocredi, they have been able to provide solar dryers for each producer, nurseries for new plants, pre-harvest financing, health services, and education for children.

The Nicaragua contributes flavors of toasted nuts, caramel and a hint of marshmallow, while the Peru brings dense body and chocolate toned sweetness.  The profile is rounded out with a touch of bittersweet roast flavor in the finish. So whether you are building a snowman in the meadow or conspiring by the fire, make sure you cozy up with a freshly brewed cup of Winter Wonderland.
