The Story
Ninga Natural represents coffee grown and harvested by 764 smallholder farmers on Ninga Hill. On average, each producer cares for a parcel no larger than a tennis court. Talk about small scale! In Burundi, the scale of each farm is so small that many farmers’ lots need to be combined to build an exportable lot. That is where the coffee washing station comes in. Washing stations are a critical step in the Burundi supply chain executing the critical steps of processing, drying, quality control, lot building, and market access. Long Miles Coffee Project owns and operates three washing stations: Heza, Bukeye, and Ninga. Together, they bring to the market coffee from 5,500 smallholder coffee producers!
Red fruit notes hold court in the cup as you might expect from natural processed coffee from Burundi. We’re picking out notes of strawberry jam, raspberry and raisin with an ample citrus acidity that keeps the cup refreshing instead of cloying. Ninga is a mouth-watering gorgeous fruit bomb of a coffee!
