While the coffees produced in southern Peru have always been exceptional, their remoteness, inaccessibility, and various political factors have kept them off the specialty market until recent history. We purchased this Cusco coffee from Red Fox Coffee Merchants, an importer that has been sourcing these gems for some time now and introducing them to the specialty market.
Cusco boasts a dynamic ancient culture, with Inca customs and legacies still playing a significant role in Peru's identity. Despite being an Andean area replete with snow-capped mountains, lagoons and frozen landscapes, Cusco also contains a large portion of the Peruvian Amazon, a place where diverse cultures converge. This region is home to the greatest biodiversity in Latin America and where some of the finest coffees in Peru are produced.
