We love sourcing and roasting Las Damas not only because it tastes so comforting, like toasted nuts and sweet caramel, but because it perfectly exemplifies our adage, it takes a village! The women behind this lot operate as a unit working towards the better good of the community.
Las Damas is a women produced lot from the producer group COOPAFSI (Cooperative Agraria “Frontera San Ignacio” Ltda). This coop has a long history of carving out spaces for women to flourish. Gender equality has been a bedrock value since their inception in 1969, informing how the land was purchased and divided among producers.
The women at COOPAFSI are driven to improve the quality of their coffee because they have seen the positive impact this has on their families and communities. They are involved in all aspects of growing, processing, and sensory analysis of their coffees. A committee of women was established in 2016 responsible for distributing loans for farmers to improve their land, homes, crafts, and livestock. This committee also created a computer lab to allow all members access to modern technology.
As you enjoy this exceptional coffee, remember: it's more than a beverage; it's a celebration of the incredible journey that unfolds when a village comes together - Every cup celebrates collaboration, quality, and a shared journey toward a better tomorrow.
